Boeing delivers third Globemaster to Canada

Canada’s third CC-177 Globemaster III has been delivered by its manufacturer, Boeing, to the Air Force. The Air Force accepted Canada Three in early March at the company's Long Beach, Calif. final assembly facility.

Canada is scheduled to receive its fourth and final CC-177 from an existing contract, signed in February last year, during an upcoming ceremony later this spring.

So far, the giant airlifter is living up to expectations, expressed by Canadian representatives during an earlier delivery, that the airlifters would be used for operations from “the Arctic to the Tropics.”

“Ten days after we [accepted delivery] of our second CC-177,we were supplying humanitarian support to Jamaica,” Colonel Chris Coates, Canadian delivery official for Canada Three and director of operations at 1 Canadian Air Division, told a group of Boeing employees gathered for the ceremony.

Col Coates was particularly impressed that it took only one day to fly down, unload and return.“It would have taken us four C-130s and two days to do what we accomplished with the CC-177.”

Then, only two days after returning from Jamaica, the same CC-177 was headed to Afghanistan. “It was really impressive,” said Col Coates. “Immediately, we could see the impact of the CC-177 to Canada. With just two aircraft, we've been able to really change what we can do. In the very short time that we've had the two CC-177s, it's been an unstoppable string of results, and we thank you for that.”
