SAN CARLOS, California - April 4, 2007 - Infinity Entertainment completes the two-year project of designing and building the world's first-ever hovering biplane. Weighing in at just over 1,650 pounds, powered by a 750 horsepower turbo prop delivering almost 3,000 lbs of thrust, the Turbine Toucan is the highest performance biplane ever built.
This is history in the making, with four world record attempts in 2007. The airspeed record for a biplane was set in 1941 at 323 miles per hour. In the fall of 2007, the Turbine Toucan will challenge this 66 year old record, as well as two time-to-climb records. In addition to breaking several current world records, the Turbine Toucan will also secure a first… the only biplane ever to hover.
Although the Turbine Toucan will go down in the record books for a number of different accomplishments, the plane was specifically designed to be on the air show circuit. One of the few aircraft in the world exclusively designed and built for Air Show demonstration purposes, this unique and powerful plane will captivate air show attendees of all ages and interests. For those attendees looking for a pure power play, the Turbine Toucan is the only civilian aircraft with a positive thrust to weight ratio. To put this in perspective, the F/A-18 Hornet (at fighter mission weight) weights 36,700 lbs and has 32,000 lbs of thrust. This is about .87:1 thrust to weight ratio performance at a cost of $39.5 million dollars. The Turbine Toucan's performance is better than 1.5:1 with pilot and fuel. Aesthetically, the Turbine Toucan is like nothing you've ever seen before. Taking its romantic queues form the nostalgia of the biplane and combining it with contemporary styling, the colorful paint scheme with a whimsical toucan, makes the Turbine Toucan almost as unique and intriguing on the ground as it is in flight.
Air shows are attended by over 18 million people in the U.S. every year. These events happen in cities from coast-to-coast and attract a highly diversified demographic. In 2007, the Turbine Toucan promises to be an entirely new experience for millions of air show fans.
