Some of the ADF’s finest personnel and technology will be on display when RAAF Base Edinburgh hosts the Defence Air Show in October, Head of Special Events, Air Commodore Des Long announced today.
AIRCDRE Long, a former Commander of the Maritime Patrol Group, said he was pleased that the Air Force was holding another air show at the South Australian Base following the highly successful open day in October 2002.
“The ADF is proud of its professional air crews and support teams. Defence Force Air Shows offer the public the opportunity to see these skills and meet our people.”
“This year the event will be a bigger and better show than 2002 and I anticipate more than 50,000 people will attend over the two days,” he said.
“The show will be structured to appeal to the youth market and promote the skills, technology and adventure that go with working in the Defence Force. We want to show that Defence operates at the cutting edge of technology.
“The air displays will feature F/A-18 Hornets, F-111 and Hawk jets alongside our newest transport aircraft, the giant C-17 Globemaster, the C130 Hercules and Caribou and the locally based AP-3C Orion Surveillance and Response aircraft. Helicopters will also be a special feature, including the Army’s Blackhawk and new Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter.”
The air show will occur on the weekend of 27 and 28 October 2007.
The ADF aircraft will be supported by a full range of ‘Warbirds’ – military aircraft from the past. Helicopter joy flights will also be available.
Exhibitions of Defence units and trades will be on display, plus the Australian Army Band Adelaide and the Band of the Air Force Cadets will be performing concerts before and after the flying program.
