Cirrus Design Corporation announced today that aerobatics champion Patty Wagstaff will be performing in a legendary P-51 at the Gathering of Mustangs & Legends' "Once in a Lifetime Aviation Celebration.”
"I usually fly my EXTRA 300S at airshows and a CIRRUS SR22 for travel, and I'm now looking forward to flying the P-51 as well," said Wagstaff, "because it played such a huge role in the successful outcome of World War II. I'm flying it as a tribute to the WASPs, who are really some of the unsung heroes, and received little, if at all attention to the important role these women played in our war efforts.”
Wagstaff will be flying the P-51 Mustang owned by Jim Beasley, Jr., Philadelphia, PA. She will also be putting her Cirrus sponsored Extra 300S through its paces at the Gathering of Mustangs & Legends' on September 28 - 30. The event is being held at Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK) in Columbus, Ohio.
"We're especially proud to sponsor Patty and her performances in this classic plane," said CIRRUS Co-founder and Vice Chairman Dale Klapmeier. "The P-51 Mustang was a phenomenal long-range single-seat fighter that was one of World War II's most successful aircraft. The P-51 was instrumental in changing the course of world history."
