EXERCISE PITCH BLACK 2008 GEARS UP NORTHERN TERRITORY FOR AIR-TO-AIR COMBAT

Final preparations have begun for the most complex air combat training scenarios above the skies of the Northern Territory. From 6-27 June, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) will host an array of international Air Force participants in Exercise Pitch Black 08.

Pitch Black is a regular RAAF exercise held every two years in the Northern Territory.

Up to 3000 service men and women from Australia and countries including the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and France will support the exercise, with ground crews and aircrews operating some of the most sophisticated military systems employed in the world.

An additional 60 aircraft from the RAAF and participating Forces will deploy to RAAF Base Darwin and RAAF Base Tindal, near Katherine. Fighter, strike, early warning, air-to-air refuelling and transport aircraft will combine with selected surface forces and systems to simulate and evaluate operational planning and tactics in war-like conditions.

Cessna 400 Headlines Company's Participation at Athens Airshow

Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today it will bring its new Cessna 400 to headline its participation at ICARUS Aero Expo Athens 2008 in June during the 24th International Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association world assembly.

Other Cessna aircraft joining the Cessna 400 at the show will include a 182 Skylane and 208B Grand Caravan. Cessna will be supporting its Athens-based Authorized Sales Representative at the show, Kostas Karayannis, S.A.

A380 is the star at Chile's FIDAE air show

The A380's first appearance in Chile was the highlight of this year's FIDAE (Feria Internacional del Aire y del Espacio) air show in the capital city of Santiago, underscoring Airbus' growing role in the Latin American airline market.

Kasprowicz Announces Around-The-World Speed Record Attempt In AgustaWestland Grand Helicopter

Scott Kasprowicz announced today his plans to make an attempt at setting a new speed record for an around-the-world helicopter flight. The record setting flight is scheduled to take place in July 2008 in Kasprowicz’s twin engine, factory standard, executive configured AgustaWestland Grand (N1US). “We are delighted that Scott has chosen the Grand to perform the around-the-world speed record which continues to achieve greater and greater success in the Americas market,” said Renzo Lunardi, senior vice president of AgustaWestland’s Commercial Business Unit. “The decision to perform a more challenging mission after breaking the transcontinental speed record, confirms the operator’s confidence in the superior and unequalled features of the aircraft.” Dubbed ‘The Grand Adventure’ Kasprowicz and pilot Steve Sheik plan to depart from New York traveling eastbound, covering over 19,865 nautical miles in 14 days. During his journey, Kasprowicz’s aircraft must cross every meridian on the globe and is prohibited from traveling into the poles due to time and distance advantages.

U.S. Aviator Seeks First World Record For Aircraft Efficiency

Beginning March 1, 2008 the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) and the National Aeronautic Association (NAA), the governing bodies of world and United States national aviation records, will begin to recognize aircraft efficiency as a new category of world aviation records.

"Aircraft and aerospace companies around the world are realizing the need to increase fuel efficiency through advancements in aerodynamics, development of lightweight components and improvement in power plants along with the adaptation of alternative fuels and engines," says Maynard.

CANADIAN FORCES SNOWBIRDS PERFORM YEAR END SHOW

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds will perform their Year End Show, marking the conclusion of the team's 37th season, Friday, October 12 at 11 a.m. at 15 Wing, Moose Jaw, with friends, family and the military community present.

"I am extremely proud of our team's accomplishments this season, both in the air and on the ground," said Major Robert Mitchell, Commanding Officer, Canadian Forces Snowbirds. "We are very thankful for the wonderful reception the team received in the communities we visited this year - it was truly an honour to represent the Canadian Forces across North America."

PATTY WAGSTAFF TO PERFORM IN P-51 MUSTANG AT GATHERING OF MUSTANGS & LEGENDS

Cirrus Design Corporation announced today that aerobatics champion Patty Wagstaff will be performing in a legendary P-51 at the Gathering of Mustangs & Legends' "Once in a Lifetime Aviation Celebration.”

"I usually fly my EXTRA 300S at airshows and a CIRRUS SR22 for travel, and I'm now looking forward to flying the P-51 as well," said Wagstaff, "because it played such a huge role in the successful outcome of World War II. AOPA Expo to land in New England for first time

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) will hold its annual Expo, general aviation's premier trade show and convention, in Hartford, Conn. The show will run October 4-6 at the Connecticut Convention Center.

"We're looking forward to our first visit to the New England region," said AOPA President Phil Boyer. "We planned our visit to coincide with the peak foliage season for the region and pilots will enjoy the scenery as they fly in for Expo."

With an average attendance of 10,000, AOPA Expo is expected to bring in about $10 million to the Hartford community.
