AerCap becomes launch customer for new Airbus A320/A321 freighter

Netherland based leasing company AerCap today signed a firm contract with Airbus Freighter Conversion GmbH (AFC) to convert 30 of AerCap’s passenger A320/A321s into freighter aircraft (P2F).

“The A320 and A321P2Fs are setting new standards in the feeder freighter market “, says Klaus Heinemann, Chief Executive Officer of AerCap. “This order will strengthen and expand our portfolio with the most and only modern aircraft in the small freighter segment.”

ANA Takes Delivery of the World's First 767-300 Boeing Converted Freighter

ANA yesterday took delivery of its first 767-300 Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF) - the prototype conversion of a 767-300 passenger aircraft into a freighter - at a ceremony in the hangar of SASCO in Singapore, the company chosen by Boeing to carry out the conversion. The newly converted freighter will join ANA's existing fleet of four 767-300 freighters (six including two leased on ACMI contract from ABX of the USA) when it flies from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Shanghai via Osaka Kansai on its late-night maiden run on July 1. It will be operated by the joint-venture company created by ANA and Japan Post, ANA & JP Express, on late-night domestic cargo flights and on routes between Japan and other Asian countries, primarily China.

First Boeing 777 Freighter Leaves Paint Hangar

Adorned in the Boeing [NYSE:BA] livery, the first 777 Freighter was moved from the Everett, Wash. paint facility to Everett field this morning, bringing the airplane one step closer to its world debut.

The 777 Freighter is based on the 777-200LR Worldliner (Longer Range) passenger airplane and will fly farther and provide more capacity than any other twin-engine cargo airplane. On May 21, Boeing will debut the 777 Freighter at employee celebration events in the Everett factory where the airplane is built on the same production lines as all other 777 models.

First 767-300 Boeing Converted Freighter Takes Flight

Boeing [NYSE:BA] and ANA celebrated the inaugural flight of the first 767-300 Boeing Converted Freighter this week, as well as completion of the airplane's journey to Seattle on the airplane's second flight. The home city of Boeing Commercial Airplanes will be the base for the 767-300BCF's flight test and certification activities that will take place over the next few months.

After a first flight of just more than three hours April 9, the airplane departed for Seattle April 10, from the ST Aviation Services Co. (SASCO) facility at Paya Lebar airport in Singapore, where the conversion from a passenger jet to a freighter took place. The 50-tonne-capacity freighter flew nonstop to Seattle, completing the 14-hour, 51-minute flight at 10:13 a.m., the same day but 15 time zones away.

Boeing Completes 50-Percent Design Release for the 747-8 Freighter

The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] has completed 50 percent of the design releases for the new 747-8 Freighter. The program has released the 747-8 Freighter's detailed designs to Boeing factories and its suppliers in order to begin building parts, assemblies and tools for the new cargo airplane.

"This design milestone is a tribute to efforts of the 747-8 team, our customers and suppliers," said Ross R. Bogue, vice president and general manager, 747 program and Everett site. "We are now focused on completing the remaining design work and delivering a 747-8 Freighter that increases the 747 family's leadership in the growing cargo market."
