Boeing and Jeppesen Technology Expand China Market for China Eastern Airlines
By FlyingNews @ 6:45 AM :: 45 Views :: 0 Comments :: Commercial Aircraft Manufacturers, Aircraft Avionics
A China Eastern Airlines (CEA) Boeing [NYSE: BA] Next-Generation 737-700 today completed a flight into China's Lijiang Airport to validate the capability and benefits of an advanced navigation method known as Required Navigation Performance (RNP).

RNP uses global-positioning satellites and onboard flight-management systems to guide airplanes along precise flight paths with pinpoint accuracy. RNP flight procedures provide operators a highly effective tool to enable safe and efficient operations in challenging terrain and weather conditions, such as those at Lijiang, in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. Advanced arrival procedures like RNP will allow airlines to significantly save on fuel and reduce flight delays by enabling airplanes to fly the most direct route to the runway.

Diamond Aircraft introduces Synthetic Vision on DA40 Diamond Stars
By FlyingNews @ 7:07 AM :: 206 Views :: 0 Comments :: General Aviation, Small Aircraft Manufacturers, Aircraft Avionics
Diamond Aircraft Industries today introduced the new Garmin Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT) for new DA40 Diamond Stars. Garmin's SVT presents a 3D depiction of terrain, obstacles and traffic on the G1000's Primary Flight Display (PFD) so that the avionics panel replicates what pilots would see outside the cockpit on a clear day. "With Diamond having been the launch platform for the Industry Standard G1000, it is only appropriate that we continue to lead by introducing this most modern of safety enhancements to general aviation," said Peter Maurer, President of Diamond Aircraft. "The technology is incredible, but what is really sensational is the price. Until now, Synthetic Vision of this quality was reserved for military or large jets, and cost several hundred thousand dollars. Garmin truly deserves credit for pioneering such affordable safety enhancements."
